Abstract

An Oscilloscope is an electronic test instrument that allows the observation of constantly varying electrical signals. It draws a graph of the instantaneous signal as a function of time making it possible to monitor the voltage amplitude, frequency and the distortion of a signal for example. Oscilloscopes are used in many fields such as engineering, telecommunications industry and for didactic purposes. They are indispensable for anyone designing or repairing electronic equipment.

We designed a Digital Oscilloscope based on Zynq all programmable System on Chip (SoC) using the ZedBoard. The system receives an analog waveform from a function generator and then, the onboard analog to digital converter (XADC) converts the waveform into a digital signal. After, The Zedboard’s FPGA captures this digital signal, buffers and sends it through serial communication to the graphic user interface, which we chose to implement in Visual Studio using Windows Presentation Foundation as its framework.
