Abstract

Home Automation consists of connecting electrical devices to a central system and automate these devices based on the user input. This topic is related to Internet of Things (IoT), since everyday objects can be controlled remotely trough the internet. In this project, a Home Automation Device Protocol (HADP) will be implemented to control some home devices trough IPv6 using the concept of IoT.

The HADP is a protocol standard for home automation, which aims for the interoperability of home automation devices across different platforms. This protocol standard requires low power consumption and supports various communication mediums. In this project, the communication trough IPv6 will be implemented and the data will be sent from the devices to the central node and vice-versa using User Datagram Protocol (UDP). In UDP, the Client and Sever can communicate with each other over the network. This protocol is a simple transmission model in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model with minimum protocol transmission mechanism. In UDP, data are sent without order and guarantee of delivery.
