Traditional Bluetooth speakers have been delivering a dull listening experience in the same manner for years. Our project, the Decibel Display, builds upon basic Bluetooth speakers and adds new features such as synchronized LEDs, Smart Assistant capability, sensor readings, and an aesthetically pleasing GUI to enhance the listener's experience. While designing the Decibel Display, there were several constraints that we had to consider. Some of the major constraints were cost, power, efficiency, and size. Components that were chosen with cost in mind to keep the overall price of the system low. Power consumption of the Raspberry Pi, amplifier/speakers, display, and LEDs had to be considered as these are the four main contributing devices to the overall power draw. While the Raspberry Pi is a very capable microcontroller, it is not the most powerful computer, so any code developed must be done so with efficiency in mind. This was especially a point of emphasis when designing the GUI. The size of the enclosure must be big enough to house both of the speakers, the display, and the rest of the system’s components.
