"Modulus: The Household Robot Assistant" represents a groundbreaking endeavor in the field of robotics, merging the realms of advanced automation and domestic utility. Spearheaded by Piotr Peksa, Cole Deck, and Muhammad Bilal Aijaz under the
mentorship of Dr. Jafar Saniie in ECE 441: Smart and Connected Embedded System Design, this project encapsulates the innovative integration of state-of-the-art technologies to address everyday household tasks. At the heart of Modulus lies a chassis developed by the IIT Robotics Club, augmented with cutting-edge components such as the Jetson Orin Nano for computational power and the OAK-D Pro Camera for enhanced vision capabilities. The robot is designed to execute tasks with precision and
adaptability, ranging from manipulating door handles to retrieving objects and handling fragile items like glassware. The software framework, built upon the robust foundations of ROS, incorporates advanced functionalities including voice recognition, object detection, and spatial navigation. The development process heavily utilized Python, capitalizing on its extensive libraries and community support, while ensuring system safety and reliability through comprehensive measures. Looking forward, the project aims to extend Modulus' capabilities with a user-friendly mobile application for task management and remote operation, alongside improvements in outdoor navigation and mobility. "Modulus: The Household Robot Assistant" not only exemplifies technological innovation but also sets a new benchmark for practical, user-centric robotic solutions in everyday settings.
