Energy efficiency has become an increasingly important concern in recent years, both as a response to climate change and as a way to manage rising energy costs. Many homeowners are now looking for tools that can help them reduce unnecessary power consumption and better understand how their appliances use energy. While smart plugs already exist on the market, they are typically limited to monitoring smaller devices like lamps or coffee makers. Our project, the Smart Power Plug, is designed to address this limitation by enabling power tracking for larger household appliances, such as refrigerators and dishwashers. The device serves three key functions: measuring real-time energy usage, acting as a controllable power switch, and broadcasting usage data to a mobile app for analysis. To support these features, the Smart Power Plug is built with locally-controlled sensors and integrates with Firebase for data storage and remote access. Through this system, users gain more control over their energy footprint and can make informed decisions that support both environmental and financial goals.
