With SmartSlice Station, we combine object classification, a designed weight scale, a chopping board, and a webserver to enhance the cooking experience, allowing users to track food and calorie intake as they cook. This project uses a two-system design, the first system surrounding the components controlled by the Raspberry Pi Zero and the second system using the Raspberry Pi Five. For the first system, an image of the food item and its weight are captured using a camera and a designed weight scale connected to the Raspberry Pi Zero. Pictures gathered from system one are used to perform object classification on system two’s Raspberry Pi Five and Google Coral USB Accelerator, enabling the identification of the food item placed on the station. The food items identified alongside their weight are entered into Edamam’s API to retrieve the calorie information, displayed on an LCD screen attached to system one and the web server. Alongside object classification, the Raspberry Pi Five hosts a web server using React and Flask. Users can track their daily calorie intakes and view their personalized recipes.
